GUILDFORD HIGH STREET
Of course, villages and towns in England vary greatly depending upon where you are in England. But Guildford, in the county of Surrey, is a fairly typical British town and the images here show what it is like.
In fact, Guildford was named the 9th best place to live in England by a national British television station. This is not surprising, as the county of Surrey is a very wealthy area in which to live, mainly because Guildford is located only some 27 kilometres from London.
GUILDFORD
The closeness of Guildford means that it is a ‘commuter’ town meaning that many people work in London and commute (travel daily) from Guildford into London. As a consequence, it is a popular place to live and is surrounded by some beautiful villages with lovely houses.
Guildford has about 70,000 people living in the town itself which has a couple of main shopping streets in the centre – together with some shopping malls. So, you can get everything you need in Guildford and this makes it a popular market town for the surrounding area.
BLACK CAB IN GUILDFORD
As you can see from the photographs, Guildford has a wide range of buildings from the very old to the brand new. However, the town tends to function reasonably well aesthetically and it is well worth visiting, if you have time to leave London and want to see a good example of a working British town.
