So, the general strike (huelga general) in Spain is due on the 29th September 2010. The question is – whether this will stop you learning English for the day or disrupt your clases de inglés en Gandia con Access English!
Actually, the only people who seem really interested in the general strike in Spain are the British! Of course, they are really worried about what will happen with the flights from the UK and Spain.
Many of us have friends who visit us and the British people living in our area frequently go back to the UK for a few days to catch up with their families. So, the question of what happens with regard to the general strike in Spain has some importance.
Of course, Nick and I rarely go back to the UK. Most of our family is scattered around the world. This is becoming reasonably typical of British families who tend to move far more than is normal here. Indeed, some years ago, it was said that the British move, on average, once every seven years!
Certainly, it is true to say that there are still quite significant cultural differences between the way the British and Spanish live their lives. We certainly feel that that the mobility of the British tends to destroy family life. After all, it is hard to keep in contact, when all of your family is spead all around a country – or, worse still, all around the world! I wonder whether Spain will become like that in the future?
Anyway, general strike in Spain or not – at Access English we shall be working as normal and we hope you will be studying your English and coming to our clases de inglés en Gandia!!
