Oh dear – everything went a bit wrong today!!
We had planned to move our clases de inglés de conversación gratis en Gandia on Saturday mornings to the VIP cafe in Calle Madrid. However, when we arrived at 09.30 hours, it was closed! Both Nick and I waited until after 10.00 – but the cafe remained closed.
Frustrated, we decided to return to Paco’s at the Cafe Ronda – where our clases de inglés de conversación gratis will remain for the time being.
In fact, this morning went well and we had a few new people present – which was great.
However, Nick and I are a little irritated that our proposed move to the VIP cafe has not worked. Actually, Nick met the owner of the VIP cafe later and he said that he had gone to bed at 04.00 hours and overslept for the first time in 10 years! He was very apologetic…
In English, we would probably sigh about all of this and then say something like ‘the best laid plans of mice and men…’ This means that sometimes it does not matter how much effort you put into something and how well you plan it. Something is bound to disrupt your plans!
The full saying is “The best laid schemes of mice and men gang aft agley” from a poem by the Scot Robert Burns. ‘Gang aft agley’ means ‘often go awry’! It is Scottish and I have never heard it used – so just use: ‘the best laid plans of mice and men…’ or the full English version: ‘the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry’!
So, next week – come to our clases de inglés de conversación gratis en Gandia at the Cafe Ronda in Gandia (not the VIP cafe in Calle Madrid – si quiere mejorar su inglés o aprender inglés en Gandia!!!
